Tree Planting Initiatives
The objective of this project is to create a better environment to live in through educating children and adults on the importance and benefits of trees, the actual planting and care of trees.
To do this, a target has been set by the council to plant and protect 85,000 trees throughout the country.
The Trees for Life programme was launched in 23 Nov 2008 by unveiling a green patch in front of the SS3 Sai centre. During this occasion a neem tree (first tree) was planted. Since then, the council has worked with many neighbourhood associations and NGOs in spreading their “green-will”.
Currently, SSBCCM has links with the Global Environment Centre and Eco Warriors and through them, have received the support of the Selangor Forestry Department who had alienated over 1000 hectares of land in the Raja Musa Peat Swamp area (near Batang Berjuntai) for reforestation. This is a long term project to rehabilitate degraded peat swamp in Raja Musa Forest Reserve through community based enrichment planting.
