MATANG JAYA COMMUNITY ADOPTION PROGRAMME

Matang Jaya Community Adoption programme, in Sg. Buloh (MJ CAP Project). This project was initiated in 2013 as a joint effort of six (6) Sathya Sai Baba Centers and Bhajan Units from the Selangor & Wilayah States, namely Rawang, Kepong, Sentul, Batu Caves, Cheras, and Brickfields Centers.

We had our soft launch at the local Kaliamman Temple in March 2013, officiated by the then Vice President of Service, Bro. Sugumaran, in the presence of some 100-odd residents and Sai devotees from the various centers and units, where the residents were treated with lunch and some cultural shows. This was to give them a glimpse of what we intended to do for them. Bro. Sugumaran briefed them on what to expect from us in time to come, to the eagerness of the parents and the little children. We embarked on this mission of adopting this community to see how we can make a difference in the lives of the poor and the needy residents there. Currently we operate from our own premise, sponsored by brother Arree Viswanathan.

Ever since the soft launch in March 2013, we have not slowed down in our efforts to make a difference to the community there. Our top priority is the children’s welfare. Our intention is to reach out to as many children as possible in that area to give them a head start in basic education, as we have noticed that their command of English & BM is very poor.

For the record, we have been providing the following:
- EHV classes for Human Excellence
- Free tuition classes were conducted on Saturdays every fortnight
- Counselling services as a form of motivation for the children
- Narayana Seva: Providing dry rations to deserving poor families
- Computer classes are conducted every Saturday afternoon
- Trust Fund called MJ Kids Education Trust Fund for childrens to pursue their higher education

So, you can see that a CAP project can give many opportunities to the devotees in their spiritual sadhana through the Service Wing. This outreach program stands to benefit not only the volunteers but also the residents of Matang Jaya. We welcome any form of assistance in helping us in this project, as we have many other ideas that we intend to implement for the benefit of the residents, especially for the children and the youths there. Until then, we will go along according to our capacity.
